Crazed Milk Paint Beauty

Oh my goodness.
The cutest chest of drawers came across my Facebook page the other day.
It caught my eye right away because it was so cute.
AND FREE.
It was a house clean out and this dresser had to go!
I messaged right away because it would be a great piece to transform!

I hated the hardware and it was a HOT MESS.
The drawers all went to far in and needed new stoppers and the top was
destroyed beyond recognition.
Someone had a plant on top and they just kept watering it and watering it and obviously didn’t
care one scotch about the damage it was doing to the top.
The top was wrecked and the finish peeled off in pieces.
I wasn’t sure I couldn’t even work with it at all, but it was FREE so why not try?
I had nothing to lose!

Besides, it was a cute solid oak chest with the original keyholes and the drawers operated well so that made it all better.

I sanded…then stripped…then sanded again.
I got it to the bare wood and it looked ok…I thought I can salvage this!
So exciting! Some new stain and poly and the top looked amazing!

I was going to go a bold color on this one, but my husband suggested white…I decided to trust him 😉
I used a custom mix of Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint in a 3:1 ratio of Grain Sack and Linen.
I was out of bonding agent so I was just open to whatever happened.
I did sand the piece lightly before painting though as there was some sort of finish on it.
I was hoping for the best, but had no idea what would happen as milk paint is so utterly unpredictable!

I never imagined I would get the best of best results… CRACKLING AND CRAZING
OF THE PAINT ALL OVER THE DRESSER!
It was the BEST outcome!
Totally unexpected, but so welcomed.

I distressed it a bit and then sealed it up in Miss Mustard Seed’s Hemp Oil.

I did ditch the hardware as it wasn’t original to the piece and I just didn’t love the pulls.
I added some ADORABLE pulls from D. Lawless Hardware.
You can find pulls like this HERE and yes, you definitely need to order some!

I adore this piece now…it took some love and work, but look at how pretty it turned out…pardon the
picture overload, but you just have to see it all!

This dresser is definitely one of my favorite pieces that I have ever done.
It was so satisfying to save it and give it a new life!

I sold it and then used that money to take my daughter to the beach for the day for her birthday … it was a win-win situation and totally worth it 😉

Hope you love as much as I do!
